The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Why I Fell in Love

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Are you looking for something new to watch, did your eye catch that fabulous pink font: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

It sparkles, it’s feminine, and something about it just pulls you in. You know that feeling, like something’s whispering:

“Waaatch it… waaaatch it…” (in a ghostly, spooky voice).

Honestly, I had no idea what I was getting into. I’d only seen random clips and positive comments online. But something told me to give it a shot, and I’m so glad I did. After the first episode, I knew I was in for the long haul.

If you haven’t seen this and you are looking for something different and new, you have to watch this show!

Period Shows Have My Heart

I’ve always loved shows that take place in the past. If it’s a period piece, I’m in.

Some of my all-time favorites:

Downton Abbey, Mad Men, ReignI could go on.

There’s something magical about being immersed in a totally different era. The costumes, the sets, the social rules, even the way people speak, it’s like time-traveling without leaving your couch.

(And yes, the smoking, drinking, and profanity definitely paint a picture of the time.)

TV Raised Me (and Maybe You Too?)

If you’re like me, you grew up with TV as a loyal companion.

Staying up late on school nights, waiting for your favorite show to drop at exactly 6pm…

Snacks ready. Drink in hand. Phone on standby to call your best friend during commercial breaks.

This show gave me that nostalgic feeling again. It reminded me of the Gilmore Girls, and that stuck hard with nostalgia.

The Cast, the Costumes, the Vibes

Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino (also, Gilmore Girls!)

The fast-talking, clever banter that feels so familiar.

If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan, this one might hit just right. The pacing, the wit, even some of the cast feels like a warm reunion.

Rachel Brosnahan plays Miriam “Midge” Maisel—a bold, stylish, hilarious powerhouse of a woman.

Her journey from “perfect housewife” to something much more real and raw is inspiring. Her dresses? Honestly, they deserve their own award. Her dresses could be a reason to watch in itself.

The cast is stacked with talent:

  • Alex Borstein (Susie) – She was hilarious on Mad TV, but she shines here in a totally new way.
  • Michael Zegen (Joel) – You want to hate him… but you just can’t.

I won’t spoil the surprise, but a few familiar faces from Gilmore Girls do pop up too!

Why It Stuck with Me

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel made me want to do something.

Like the movie Julie & Julia, it gave me that spark again—the one that says, “Hey, I can do this too.”

This blog exists because of that spark.

Was the entire series perfect? Not quite. Seasons 1–3 were amazing. Seasons 4 and 5 felt a bit rushed. But overall, it’s a show I’ll definitely re-watch. It’s officially on my “must-watch-again” list (yes, that’s a real list I have in my head).

If you love strong female leads, clever writing, vintage vibes, and stories that make you want to start something new, this show might just be your next obsession.
